For us Disnerds, we often find ourselves reminiscing about the times of the past. Our favorite trips to Disney, our favorite memories and of course our favorite attractions. But, as Walt Disney World grows, so must the attractions and sometimes some of our most beloved attractions must be closed in order to make room for the new ones. Here is our List of the 9 Walt Disney World Attractions we miss the most.
Lights,Motors,Action-One of the most recent Walt Disney World Closures, Lights,Motors,Action was a live action stunt show featuring fast cars, explosions, and death defying stunts and special effects. Guests loved the show for the way it made them feel like they where living inside of a Michael Bay movie, quite frankly it was just awesome. But, much to our dismay, Lights,Motors,Action was torn down in December of 2016 to make room for the upcoming Star Wars Land, which in our opinion is a worthy successor.
Tarzan Rocks!-Tarzan Rocks! was part, Disney Show, part live rock concert and in our opinion one of the greatest Disney shows of all time. This high energy attraction featured Rollerblading Monkeys, Live music and entertainment that simply cannot be replaced. While we understand that switching to Finding Nemo the Musical in 2006 would appeal to the younger audience, we where still deeply saddened to see this one go.
Push The Talking Trash Can-Push, the talking trash can, was an animatronic radio controlled robot that made daily visits around the Tommorrowland area of Magic Kingdom. The way Push would joke around with and sneak up on unsuspecting park guest was nothing short of hilarious. Push was introduced to Magic Kingdom in 1995 but sadly, due to Disney's contract running out with an Orlando based Robotics company, push was retired in 2014.
Yellow Mickey Ponchos-Rain is simply something that cannot be avoided on a Walt Disney World vacation. In years past, rain only meant one thing, crowds of people wearing overpriced yellow ponchos. While they may have been overpriced, it was nice to see a little bit of color when the skies turned grey and the weather. Sadly, in 2003, Walt Disney World got rid of the yellow ponchos for the new clear ones, which are still over priced.
Magic Kingdom Gondala Ride-The Gondala Ride, or Walt Disney World Skyway as it was known, was a very popular aerial ropeline ride that transported guests from Fantasyland to Tommorrowland. This ride was famed for its beautiful views of the Magic Kingdom and the fun riders had when passing buy other guests on the Skyway. Unfortunately, due to stricter regulations and safety concerns, the Skyway was removed from the Magic Kingdom in 1999.
Mickey's Hand Over Spaceship Earth-When Walt Disney World began there Millennium Celebration in 2000, they made sure to start it with a bang by erecting a 257 foot tall, 500,000 pound Mickey hand and wand on top of spaceship Earth, Not only did this make it the tallest structure in all of Walt Disney World, it was also one of the most expensive. Much to the dismay of Disney guest and fanatics, the structure was taken down in 2007.
Snow White's Scary Adventure-While originally planned to be a harmless re-telling of the Disney classic Snow White, the Witch at the end of the ride was so terrifying that it often left kids leaving the attraction screaming and crying rather than smiling and laughing. After a few changes, the ride was re-opened in 1994 and while it no longer scared the younger guest, Snow White's Scary Adventure was removed in 2012 to make way for a new Fairytale Princess Meet and Greet that came with the new Fantasyland Expansion.
Mr.Toads Wild Ride-The fact that this attraction was around on the opening day of Walt Disney World in 1971 is reason enough to mourn its closure. Mr.Toads Wild Ride chronicled the life and adventures of Mr.Toad from the beloved Disney cartoon "The Wind in the Willows." This attraction was famed for it's old fashioned motorcars that transported guest through the streets of London, the crazy and misfortunate events that took place, and the crash with a locomotive at the end of the ride that didn't go so well for Mr.Toad. Sadly, Mr.Toads Wild Ride was laid to rest in 1998 to make room for "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh." RIP
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea-Another attraction that was present for opening day in 1971, this popular submarine ride treated guest to a once in a lifetime aboard the "Nautilus" from the classic Disney film "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." While the submarines where never fully submerged, guest where seated below the water line near portholes where they could view the underwater scenery. Due to budget cut's and not enough seats for Disney's ever growing visitor numbers, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was closed and later replaced with the "Seven Dwarf's Mine Train" with the new Fantasyland expansion.
