Walt Disney World Vacations aren´t exactly cheap and saving up for them can be a difficult task. Dipping into college funds, Selling the family car, even Remortgaging their house are all crazy ways we´ve heard of people coming up with the money for their Walt Disney World Vacation. But saving up for your Disney vacation doesn´t have to be that difficult, in fact it´s quite simple. Here are 4 Easy Ways to Save Money For Your Next Walt Disney World Vacation
"Disney Fund"-This one is by far my Families favorite way to save money for our Disney vacations. Not only is it very effective, if you have kids it makes a fun activity for them to do. All you need is an old jar with a lid and Disney themed materials to decorate it with, we used an old Ragu tomato sauce jar but any jar will do. Cut a slit in the lid of the jar large enough to deposit change and dollar bills. Screw the lid back on and decorate with your Disney themed materials. Put it in a spot in your house where its visible and easily accesible by everyone and Thats It!!! Now, every time you have some spare change, instead of losing it in the couch cushions or buying a soda with it, you can put it into your "Disney Fund". You´d be surprised at how fast pocket change can add up. We started a "Disney Fund" before our last Disney vacation and we where able to collect $625 in Just one year!
Make Your Coffee at Home-While you may not think your $4 cup of Dunkin Donuts coffee is hurting your Walt Disney World vacation, when you do the math out it paints quite a different picture. Let´s assume that you work 5 days a week and everyday you work you stop at Dunkin Donuts for a cup of coffee. That´s 260 days out of the year that you are buying a cup of coffee. If you do the math out that comes to $1,040! Obviously there are going to be days where you don´t buy coffee and there are days off and holidays and stuff like that but by just eliminating coffee from your daily expenses there is an incredible amount of money to be saved. Last year, just between me and my wife, we where able to save almost $2,000 by making our coffee at home instead of running to Dunkin Donuts every morning.
Get A Credit Card That Pays You To Shop-This one may not apply to everyone but for those of us who make majority of our payments with a credit card, this one is a no brainer. Why not get cash back on those purchases you are going to be making anyway?
Cash back credit cards are simple. As long as you pay of your bill in full at the end of the month, your credit card company will give you cash back that you can then put towards your Disney World Vacation! Most banks and credit companies offer cash back credit cards and if for some reason yours doesn't, a quick search on google will provide you with hundreds of credit card companies that do. While not our biggest method of saving and results will vary depending on how much you use your credit card, we where able to save $422 this past year with our Cash Back Credit Card.
Have a Garage Sale-This one requires a bit more effort than the other ways to save money on here but it can still be just as effective. Not only can you make a bunch of money selling the stuff you no longer use, you get to clean out all of the stuff in your house that is just collecting dust and taking up space. Hosting a garage sale is pretty simple, all you need to do is get a permit from your town hall, scour your house for items you no longer use and post up signs around town with the date and location of your yard sale. Simple Right? Permits can be obtained online and usually don´t cost much more than $25. Make sure you check the weather channel to find a date that is going to be warm and sunny, you're going to need this date when it comes time to acquire a permit and you don't want to pick a rainy day. Once you've obtained your permit that's where the fun starts. Scour your house for all of the items you think you could live without or haven't used in awhile. My rule of thumb is if you haven't touched it in a year, you probably don't need it. Now that you've got your permit and items to sell, all thats left for you to do is advertise your Garage Sale. This can be another fun project for you and your kids. Help them create a couple signs promoting your Garage Sale and post them up all over town. If you want to take it a step further you can create a Craigslist ad with the date and location of your yard sale, just be sure to take it down once your yard sale has ended, you don't want your address out there for too long! When we held our Garage Sale last summer, we where able to make $963, just from selling our used things that we no longer had any use for!
Just from using these 3 simple tricks, we where able to save almost $3,588 with almost no effort on our part. That is enough money for most to go on a 7 day Walt Disney World Vacation including flights, hotels and a dining plan!
