There are plenty of articles out there to aid you in what to do when in Walt Disney World. Top 10 "Must Do's", Best Eats, and articles focusing on tips all fall under this category. But there aren't many articles out there focusing on what you shouldn't do when in Walt Disney World. Here is our List of the Top 25 Walt Disney World "Do Not's"
DO NOT make the mistake of trying to stay on a strict schedule, your vacation is supposed to be fun, sometimes your planned schedule needs to be tossed to the side to allow the magic the happen
DO NOT forget that kids like a say in the vacation planning, it's supposed to be a family vacation, and while you may have a pretty good idea what your kids would like to do at Disney World, make sure to ask them. Not only will they find planning there own vacation tons of fun, you can be sure you are getting in everything they would like to do, its a win win.
DO NOT show up to an attraction you have a Fastpass+ for an hour late and expect the Cast Member to let you through, we have seen this one countless times on our Disney vacations, people showing up way to late or way too early for there Fastpass+ and getting upset with the cast member because they won't let them through. There are set times on your Fastpass+ for a reason, and while there is a short grace period (about 15 minutes on both sides) please try to show up on time for your Fastpass+ to avoid any problems
DO NOT buy water in the parks, a water bottle in the parks is almost $4. Bring a refillable water bottle with you instead, there are free water fountains scattered throughout all of the parks and having one with you will save you tons of money on your vacation
DO NOT feel obligated to get Park Hopper tickets, don't get us wrong, on shorter vacations the Park Hopper tickets are a great way to get to all of your favorite attractions in all of the parks, but in our opinion, on any vacation over 5 days long, we recommend skipping the park hopper option all together. Skipping the Park hopper will save you $64 a person and in our opinion doing one park per day will allow you to get everything done that you wanted to do without having to rush and get all stressed out
DO NOT miss your scheduled dining reservationSean, Disney will charge your credit card for reservations cancelled a certain amount of time before your reservation date or for a missed reservation.
DO NOT schedule a character meal at any time but breakfastBeverly, The least expensive time to schedule a Character meal is at breakfast. You can save around $20 per person by having your character meal first thing in the morning.
DO NOT forget to bring gum if you are someone that needs to chew it, they do not sell it anywhere on Disney Property
DO NOT take flash pictures on rides or in shows, not only is it against the rules and can get you kicked out, it is extremely rude to everyone around you who is trying to enjoy the attraction.
DO NOT forget that there are people behind you during parades/fireworks, nobody likes the guy that holds his ipad over his head so no one else can see, and we understand that your little children may not be able to see, if that's the case hold them at waist level so there head is level with yours or if you have to put them on your shoulders make sure there is nothing but a wall behind you.
DO NOT skip the resort mug, while the $15-$17 cost upfront may seem a little steep for a mug, the savings it can afford you over the course of your vacation is huge. With the average cost of a drink on Disney property is around $4, he mug will pay for itself after just three meals at your resort.
DO NOT forget to take home the resorts shampoos and soaps, You paid for them, so why not take them home. They smell great and they provide a great reminder when you are feeling that Disney blues a few weeks after your vacation, and, if you ask nicely, housekeeping will give you a few extras to fill your suitcases
DO NOT stay anywhere but on propertyMonica, The Disney Resorts do cost more than staying off of Disney property but you are not just paying for a hotel, you are paying for the experience. You get to ride the Disney busses and ride on the Disney Boats and relax after a long day at the pool. You are in the middle of all of the Disney action and in our opinion staying at a Disney resort makes vacations that much more magical.
DO NOT wing it, While at most theme parks you can just show up with no plan and be ok, that is simply not the case at Walt Disney World. The parks are simply too big, too busy and there are far too many attractions to get done without some sort of plan. At the very least you should have a general idea what you would like to do most that day, take a look at a park map to get an idea of where these attractions are located and try to get Fastpass+ for as many of these attractions as possible.
DO NOT think you can do it all, there is far too much in the parks to get it all done in one day. There is far too much n the parks to enjoy them all in one day. Slow down, relax, and enjoy the magic
DO NOT forget to make reservations, getting walk up seating is almost impossible, especially in the bussier times of the year. You are allowed to make dining reservations up to 180 days before your arrival, make sure you get reservations at all the restaurants you plan on dining at to ensure you get a table.
DO NOT miss the night-time shows, The nighttime shows (Illuminations, Fantasmic, Wishes) at Walt Disney World are some of if not the best in the world. Make sure you stay till closing to see these shows, the little extra wait exiting the park is well worth it.
DO NOT stand in a bag check line unless you absolutely have too, We understand if you have small children or must carry a bunch of stuff with you this is unavoidable, but if at all possible try to avoid bringing a bag into the parks. Getting through security with a bag takes much longer than without one and there is nowhere to store them on the attractions, if you lose them you are out of luck
DO NOT forget your camera, This one is of the utmost important, make sure you have a camera with you. It doesn't have to be the top of the line DSLR, a camera phone will do just fine, just make sure you have something to capture all of your memories with, you'll be glad that you did.
DO NOT forget to bring ponchos, it is going to rain during at some point during your Disney vacation, ponchos in the parks are almost $10 a piece, you can pick up a 20 pack on amazon for the same price
DO NOT leave the parks if it rains, if it starts to rain, don't run back to your hotel, that is what everyone else will be doing. Throw on a poncho and stay in the park, there will be little to no lines on most attractions and it usually doesn't rain all day.
DO NOT draw too much attention to yourself, have you ever been on a Disney bus on the way back from a long day in the parks and there is a group of teenagers making so much noise you can barely hear yourself think? We understand you are just trying to have fun and by all means you are in the Happiest place on earth, go for it, just DON'T BE SO LOUD ABOUT IT!!!
DO NOT be afraid to spend a day at your resort hotel, while the parks may be the highlight of your vacation, walking around all day under the blazing sun can become exhausting. Take a day off and relax at your resort hotel, there is still plenty of fun to be had. Lay out by the pool, go canepole fishing, rent a boat, even take a tour around your resort on a tandem Bike!
DO NOT buy a souvenir on the first day, this is a mistake I have made one too many times. I saw something I loved on my first day in Disney World only to find something I loved even more just a few days later. Wait till the end of your vacation to buy souvenirs to avoid over spending.
DO NOT forget your sunscreen,This could be the most important item on the list. I forgot my sunscreen on my last vacation and boy did I forget it. I looked like a lobster for a month after that. If you do forget it, it can be bought at your resort but expect to pay 2 to 3 times as much as you normally would.
